Every team needs a precise record of how work items evolve in Jira. As your projects grow, keeping track of status updates, reassigned tasks, and changing requirements becomes difficult. The native Jira changelog records this data, but it lacks the capabilities needed to find specific updates quickly.
That is why we built the Historian - History Explorer for Jira. It allows you to report on a group of issues simultaneously and turns raw history changes into clear, interactive reports.
Now, we are introducing the Historian AI Assistant. This new feature lets you explore issue history and get guidance using natural language. You describe what you need, and the Historian AI Assistant helps you find the right approach to track, filter, and analyze your Jira issue changes.
What is the Historian AI Assistant?
Powered by Atlassian Rovo, the Historian AI Assistant acts as your personal guide for history exploration. You can access it directly from the Historian main screen or the Work Item View tab.
Instead of guessing which configurations to apply, you simply enter your request in plain language. The assistant analyzes your input and guides you step by step on how to use the relevant Historian feature, or provides a direct answer about configuration. Whether you need to know who changed a field and when, how to compare an issue state between two dates, or how to reconstruct a past backlog, the Assistant shows you exactly where to go and what to do. It guides you on how to find and view your data within the app so you can build the perfect report.
Note: Existing customers will need to manually update the app to access the new AI Assistant. If you don't see it yet, check with your Jira admin to ensure the app is updated to the latest version.

Practical Use Cases for Agile Teams
The ability to get instant guidance creates immediate benefits for project managers and developers.
Simpler Daily Stand-ups
During a daily stand-up, you need to know exactly what was completed in the last 24 hours. You can ask the AI Assistant, "How can I see all status changes made in my project since yesterday?" The Assistant will guide you through the exact steps to configure your report, helping you quickly get a factual list of every ticket that moved to Done.
Data-Driven Sprint Retrospectives
If a Sprint misses its goals, you need to understand why. You can ask the Historian AI Assistant how to track updates to Story Points or Assignee fields during the sprint duration. The assistant will guide you to the right filtering tools, so you can clearly see if scope creep occurred or if tasks were repeatedly reassigned.
Faster Audit Preparation
Compliance requires transparency regarding data modifications. When an auditor requests proof of a change to a critical security parameter, you can ask the Assistant how to filter for that specific field modification. Following its guidance, you can easily set up the report and export it to a CSV or Excel file to satisfy compliance requirements.
About Historian
Historian - History Explorer for Jira is an Atlassian Marketplace app developed by OBSS. It is a Cloud Fortified app that turns the default Jira changelog into an organized, readable report. .png?width=1840&height=900&name=Historian%20-%20Highlight1%20(1).png)
The app provides a Work Item View for expanding chronological ticket history and a Field-Based View for filtering any system or custom fields. It features advanced tools like Historic Query, which lets you view a Jira backlog exactly as it appeared on a past date. The Compare Dates feature includes a Diff View that automatically highlights specific changed words, saving you from scrolling through empty dates. With the addition of the AI Assistant, navigating your Jira history is more intuitive than ever.
