Frequently Asked Questions
Open the issue, go to the Activity section and select History. Jira lists each change on that issue with who made it and when. Historian adds a tab to the same issue view that shows those changes as a clear table with old and new values, and lets you compare the issue at two points in its history.
Not in Jira itself: the History tab shows one issue at a time. Historian's Work Item History report takes a JQL query and shows the change history of every matching issue in one table, whether they are stories, bugs, tasks or epics, from one project or several. Review a whole sprint, release or project without opening issues one by one.
Jira's History tab has no export option. In Historian, build a history report with the issues and fields you need, apply your filters and export it as XLSX or CSV for audits, archiving or stakeholder reviews. Admins can limit exporting to specific user groups.
Historian lists every change with the user who made it, the date and time, and the old and new values. Filter by any system or custom field (for example Story Points or Assignee), by user, or by a date range such as a sprint to answer "who changed this?" across a whole project.
Only partly. JQL's WAS and CHANGED operators work with just six fields: Assignee, Fix Version, Priority, Reporter, Resolution and Status. Changes to fields such as Story Points, Sprint, Labels or custom fields can't be searched that way. Historian tracks changes to any system or custom field, and you narrow the report with JQL.
The audit log records configuration and admin changes across your site, such as workflows, permissions, custom fields and projects, and viewing it requires the Administer Jira global permission. Issue history records field changes on individual issues, such as status, assignee or description, and anyone who can view the issue can see it. Historian turns issue history into reports across many issues.
Use Historian’s Historic Query. Select issues with JQL or a basic filter, pick a past date, and Historian shows the fields you choose, such as status, assignee or sprint, exactly as they were at that moment. The issue list comes from your query today, and issues not yet created on that date are flagged. It is read-only reporting, so nothing in your Jira data changes.
With Historian’s Compare Dates, pick an issue and two points in its change history to see its field values side by side. Show Diff View highlights the parts of each value that changed, so in a text field such as Description you can see the earlier version and what was edited. Compare Dates is also available as a tab in the issue view.
Filter a Historian report to the fields you care about, such as Story Points, Description or Sprint, and to the sprint's dates. Field-Based View lists each change with the user and timestamp, and you can export the result for your retrospective.
Yes. Historian reads the changelog Jira already keeps for every issue, so you can report on past changes as soon as it is installed.
Yes. Describe what you need in plain English, such as "who changed the status of PROJ-101 last week", and the Historian AI Assistant, powered by Atlassian Rovo, guides you step by step to the right history report.
Historian respects Jira permissions: users only see the history of issues they can already view, and admins can limit app access and exporting to specific groups. It carries Atlassian's Runs on Atlassian and Cloud Fortified badges, takes part in the Marketplace Bug Bounty program, and OBSS is an ISO 27001 certified vendor.
